The open emptyness of yesterday

The open emptyness of yesterday

Thanks Chris Wood. You screwed my Monday. And you also made my Monday. Yesterday’s game between Spurs and Burnley should have finished 3-1 or 4-1. Spurs played okay – not brilliantly – but well enough and creatively enough to have comfortably dealt with a horrible Burnley side. After an awful first half, Dele scored the goal we needed then the game opened up. Good chances came and went. Harry Kane, who’s...

A couple of weeks ago one of my boyhood heroes – Steve Sumner – passed away after a battle against prostate cancer. I guess it was expected (speaking with people who knew him it definitely was) but still, when it came, it was a shock. The performance by New Zealand’s finest wasn’t all that fine, though. At...

In 2010 I travelled to South Africa for the FIFA World Cup. During my travels I wrote weekly articles for the Matamata Chronicle. I have combined these articles and will present them in two parts – pre-tournament and during-tournament. This wasn’t the first time DB’s World Cup Diary made an appearance. It made it’s debut for Germany 2006. We hit South Africa and South Africa hits us!  When Joel (Matamata Chronicle Editor) told me I...
