The open emptyness of yesterday

Thanks Chris Wood.

You screwed my Monday.

And you also made my Monday.

Yesterday’s game between Spurs and Burnley should have finished 3-1 or 4-1. Spurs played okay – not brilliantly – but well enough and creatively enough to have comfortably dealt with a horrible Burnley side.

After an awful first half, Dele scored the goal we needed then the game opened up. Good chances came and went. Harry Kane, who’s already hit the woodwork twice this season, missed a couple of goodies to break his August duck. The game should have been over, with the scene perfectly set for Wood to get the inoffensive consolation debut goal all All Whites fans were craving.

But the game wasn’t over and when the Wood goal went in my cry of “For Fuck’s Sake!” nearly scared the crap out of Siena.

And I got a good telling off from Jean.

But. For Fuck’s Sake.

Football aye?

Okay. It could be worse. A point’s still a point. Spurs always seem to start slow so no real damage done. And hey, a Kiwi scored at Wembley. And, and…at least I’m not burdened with being an Arsenal fan.

Theo and I will be at Wembley a couple of times in October to watch Spurs play. I really hope the non-existent curse has been exorcised by then.

And Chris Wood: please don’t do that again.
