It’s hard to know what to write after reading the match report on Melville United’s website from yesterday’s Chatham Cup quarter-final. I certainly can’t hope to beat it, let alone match it, such is the ability behind a keyboard of the one and only Cordwainer Bull. So what can I do? I was in Melbourne recently and took the opportunity to go and watch a game of Aussie Rules football at Etihad Stadium. The stadium was only a short walk from where we were staying and even though it was raining and I had a reluctant wife in tow I had a good night out. The rain didn’t matter because they closed the roof. As for the reluctant wife… well, my credit card’s only just recovered from a post game battering....

It’s hard to know what to write about yesterday’s Ngaruawahia United versus Forrest Hill Milford NRFL Division 1 match. It was a frustrating watch, both for a neutral like myself and, I’m sure, the home fans. It’s fair to say the way the match played out pretty much wasn’t what I had hoped for. I arrived at Centennial Park wanting to see goals. And it started so promisingly for Ngaruawahia as well....
